or I want to become a fire fighter. What should I do to give myself a better shot. 1. get EMT Basic Cert. 2. Join Army reserves as a fire fighter 3. Become a volunteer. Also I had a DUI about 4 years ago is that gonna kill me right there. Thanks and any feedback you may have is appreciated.

Derek, you have to have your EMT licence to become a firefighter. I know the process of getting into a dept can be a lengthy one so if you got your paramedic license that might quicken the process. Volunteering always looks good on your background. Plus you get to know the guys well at the dept and when it comes hiring time they know what you are all about. However you choose to get there, it will be an awesome experience and I wish the best of luck to you!
