or In my early twenties I got a D.U.I and two years later I was cited for driving on a suspended license. This was over 10 years ago and since then my drivng record has been clean. How will this affect me in the hiring process, and what is the best way to handle this.

Not much you can do....Just admit it when questioned, do not offer excuses and show how you learned from your mistakes.
Some departments may fail you for it, others may not. each department is different.
