New hires must be willing to cover the district on holidays, in the overnight hours and deploy on statewide strike team or taskforce response's, .Personnel must have completed an OSFM Curriculum Firefighter I Academy, or have a completed Firefighter I task book, or OSFM Firefighter.

Requirements:

Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of accident prevention, loss control and industrial hygiene.
OSHA and AOSHA regulations.
Principles of program management; principles of effective training.
Employee and public safety; health administration including safety and health education and training.
Accident investigation.
Record keeping, publicity and safety committee operation.
Rules, regulations, policies, procedures, precedents and terminology use in the safety and health field.
Worker’s Compensation.
HazMat; HazCom.
Industrial hygiene procedures including air monitoring, noise monitoring and respirator fit testing.
Adult learning theory and principles; the principles and theory of safety issues.

Ability to:

Desirable Training and Experience:
Bachelors degree or 4 years of college study with major course work leading to a degree in fire science, engineering, or other job related courses.
5 years of progressively responsible administrative and supervisory experience in fire service administration and/or emergency medical service.
Minimum Fire fighter/EMT-Level 1 certification.
Extensive knowledge of the National Incident Management System and Incident Command System (must be documented in the resume/application).
Fire Service Instructor desired.
IFSAC accreditation desired.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
➢ Thorough knowledge of modern fire suppression and prevention and emergency medical services principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment
➢ Emergency service operations including both structural and wildland fire suppression, hazardous materials response, emergency medical and associated services
➢ Advanced principles of emergency medical service provision, first aid, life support and technical rescue

➢ Analyze and cope with a variety of emergency situations calmly but effectively and to react quickly to secure accurate and precise information on the location, extent, and nature of fires and emergency aid requests
➢ Skill in the principles and techniques of customer relations skills; ability to deal diplomatically with irate, violent or frantic individuals; ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations
➢ Ability to analytically observe, and objectively and clearly report routine and non-routine, emergency and non-emergency activities
➢ Sustain heavy physical labor during periods of intense activity in emergency situations; to work at varying heights above grade
➢ Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public; to work effectively as a team member
➢ Service and operate all District equipment and apparatus
➢ Perform necessary maintenance, testing and care of fire hoses, trucks, ladders, and auxiliary equipment and apparatus
➢ Maintain necessary records and reports, incident forms, and daily shift operation logs, to accommodate needs of the district including computer data entry
➢ Must be willing to work shifts, weekends and holidays
➢ Must be physically able to fulfill the duties and responsibilities and pass an NFPA compliant physical examination
➢ Must pass background check

CERTIFICATIONS
➢ Must possess and maintain valid Colorado driver’s license
➢ Must possess and maintain current Emergency Vehicle Operator Course compliance
➢ Must possess and maintain valid CPR certification
➢ Must possess and maintain valid NREMT certification
➢ Must possess and maintain Colorado State EMT certification with IV, or greater
➢ If EMT-I or Paramedic must possess and maintain valid ACLS and PALS certifications
➢ Must maintain on-protocol status as EMT or greater within Mesa County
➢ Must possess and maintain valid FF-I certification
➢ Must possess and maintain valid FF-II certification
